The Straughn Tigers used big shots to sweep the Opp Bobcats Tuesday night in Straughn.

GIRLS

STRAUGHN 50,

Straughn came out firing on all cylinders in the opening game and held off the Lady Bobcats for a 50-26 victory.   

The Lady Tigers got big 3-pointers from Lexi Hooks and Alyssa Dean to give Straughn a 12-3 lead at the end of the first period.

Allie Kelley got things rolling in the second period with 7 points to push the Lady Tigers up to a 26-10 lead going into halftime.

Kelley also came up with several big steals and rebounds for the Lady Tigers in the victory.

Kelley led the way for the Lady Tigers with 16 points in the win.

Colby Adams finished with 8 points and Hooks came in with 6 points.

“I was disappointed with our effort on Friday night and I really challenged the girls at practice yesterday to really step it up, and I felt like we did that tonight,” Lady Tigers’ head coach Scott Kinsaul said. “I was very proud of our effort tonight. Allie Kelley really stepped up and had a great game, and she is only an eighth grader. I told her that whatever she ate for breakfast this morning that she has to eat it before every game now.”

The Lady Bobcats were led by Frankie Vickery with 9 points.

BOYS

STRAUGHN 48,

In the final game of the evening, the Straughn Tigers clawed their back for a 48-39 victory over the Opp Bobcats on Tuesday night in Straughn.

Orlando Lacey and Reggie Thompson got things off to a hot start and 10-5 lead at the end of the first period.

Straughn grabbed the lead in the second period after Hank Peeples knocked down a 3-pointer.

The Bobcats grabbed the lead right back with 3-pointers from Stuart Baker and Tye Lindsey to give Opp a 20-18 lead at halftime.

Both teams continued to battle it out in the third period, with the Bobcats holding the lead for nearly the entire period.

However, H. Peeples buried a long-range 3-pointer as the clock hit double-zeros to give the Tigers a 30-29 lead heading into the final frame.

H. Peeples and younger brother Justin Peeples each dropped in big 3-pointers in the final period to help push the Tigers to victory.

H. Peeples led the Tigers with 20 points in the win.

“It was a tale of two halves tonight,” Straughn head coach Bradley Stephens said. “We started out rough, but once we settled in we started to play the type of ball that we know how to. It also really helps when Hank is hitting his shots.”

Thompson led the way for the Bobcats with 18 points.

“They hit their 3-pointers and we didn’t,” Opp head coach Willie Edwards said. “It was a very good ball game all the way to the end, and it was a well officiated game. I thought we played pretty good on defense for the first three periods, but they just started hitting their shots at the end. I was proud of the way that our kids played tonight. They fought until the very end and that is really all you can ask for out of them.”
