The Pleasant Home Eagles have been rolling as of late and continued that momentum on Friday night by sweeping the Kinston Bulldogs in Pleasant Home for a homecoming win.

GIRLS

PLEASANT HOME 57, KINSTON 25

The No. 6-ranked Lady Eagles started the night slow but cruised to a 57-25 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

River Baldwin got the Lady Eagles on the board first with a free throw.

Amy Bulger and Hope Gunter each added a bucket to give the Lady Eagles a 12-10 lead at the end of one period of play.

Baldwin got things going in the second period with a layup and Bulger followed with a pair of free throws to put the Lady Eagles 16-12.

Abby Walker dropped in a mid-range jumper a few moments later to extend the lead to 20-12.

Bulger then added a jumper and Hope Gunter picked up layup after notching a steal.

Gunter’s layup gave the Lady Eagles 27-15 lead heading into halftime.

To start the third period, Baldwin came up with a big block and then took the ball down the floor for a layup.

Lady Eagles’ senior and 2017 Homecoming Queen Camille Holley got into the scoring action when she got a Lady Bulldog player to bite on a pump fake before stepping back for a jumper.

Holley then followed up with a 3-pointer to put the Lady Eagles up 41-17.

The Lady Eagles were able to cruise the rest of the way to the win.

Baldwin led the Lady Eagles with 23 points.

BOYS

PLEASANT HOME 66, KINSTON 29

In the final game of the evening, the No. 6-ranked Eagles came out shooting lights out and hammered the Bulldogs 66-29 to complete area play with a perfect 6-0 record.

“The main thing tonight was that we came out playing with a lot of intensity,” Pleasant Home head coach Troy Turman said. “We played really hard on the defensive end and we did a great job controlling the boards. We put the pressure on by grabbing so many rebounds. They were limited to one shot most of the time, and they felt the pressure to hit those shots. We can be hard to beat if we continue to control the game by controlling the boards.”

The Eagles came storming out of the gate with big 3-pointers from Robert Scott and buckets from Tyler Myrick.

Scott knocked down a 3-pointer at the end of the opening period to put the Eagles on top 22-8.

Austin Kelley had huge night for the Eagles as he racked up six blocks to go along with Pleasant Home’s 15 blocks as a team.

“I was very pleased with effort that we had tonight,” Turman said. “On defense, we had a lot of blocked shots and did a good job of altering shots that we didn’t block. These kids are really playing with a lot of confidence and they believe they are going to win when they step on the court. I really like the way that the team has been growing. This was a great team win and it’s always nice to win on homecoming, but now it’s time to refocus and get ready for what’s next.”

Myrick led the Eagles with 20 points in the win.

Scott finished with 15 points and Walt Weaver came in with 14 points.

Along with six blocks, Kelley finished the game with 8 points.
