Covington County Coroner Norman Hobson said the man found dead Tuesday afternoon died of hypothermia.
On Tuesday afternoon, George Von Polson, 79, was found when the Andalusia Fire Department responded to a brush fire off Sixth Avenue.
Polson was reported missing by his caretaker earlier this month, police said.
Chief Paul Hudson said it was not uncommon for Polson to travel, and those who knew him weren’t sure if he had gone on a trip, or was indeed missing.
The APD completed numerous checks at the subject’s residence and any known location the subject had previously been known by those contacted, he said. The information was entered into the National Crime information Center for any possible encounters with law enforcement nationwide.
The body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.
Hobson said that there were no signs of foul play.
