The No. 10-ranked Pleasant Home Eagles put together a strong performance as they knocked off the Jay High School Royals (Fla.) 66-43 Thursday night in Pleasant Home.

“I thought we played well tonight,” Pleasant Home head coach Troy Turman said. “We got to give a lot of guys some opportunities, and they did a really good job.”

After Jay went up 3-0, Nic Woods came up with a steal and layup and drew foul on his way to the bucket. Woods knocked home the free throw to tie the game.

Woods got another couple of layups to put Pleasant Home up 7-5 with 3:40 left in the opening period.

Aaron Warthen gave the Eagles 13-10 lead at the end of the first period with a pump fake at the free throw line and then a drive to the basket for a layup.

Robert Scott got things started in the second with a 3-pointer to put the Eagles up 16-13.

The Eagles caught fire in the second period with buckets from several different players.

Tyler Myrick and Scott each came up with big shots to help put the Eagles up 34-18 heading into halftime.

Myrick picked up a steal to start the third period and drew a foul while dropping in a free throw.

Myrick connected on 3-point play to put Pleasant Home up 36-21.

Scott came up with a steal a few minutes later and dished off to Myrick for a layup to give the Eagles a 41-25 advantage midway through the third period.

At the end of three periods, Pleasant Home was up 48-34.

The Eagles continued to pour on the pressure and finished the Royals by a final of 66-43.

“We came in with a game plan tonight that we were going to play them a certain way and I thought the guys did a really good job with that,” Turman said. “This was scrappy team and I’m really proud of our guys with how they executed the game plan. This was a big home win and it will help us get ready for a tough area game with in Houston County next week.”

The Eagles will be back in action tonight as the take on the Florala Wildcats at home.
