According to Kristy Shuford White’s book, Andalusia, the First National Bank building, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, was designed by architect Frank Lockwood and built by Little and Cleckers of Anniston in 1921, which also built the courthouse.

It was the home of First National Bank, which later merged with Andalusia National Bank. The building

was later purchased by Frank Timmerman, owner of an insurance business. It was fully occupied by tenants when the iconic clock was installed in the 1930s.

Mayor Earl Johnson said research has already begun on the McClintock clock, which he believes was installed in 1934.

“These clocks are extremely collectible,” he said. “We have already located a couple of them, and the nearest one is in Hendersonville, N.C. “

Johnson said he is trying to identify the workers who restored the clock in Hendersonville, and will get them to look at the Andalusia clock.

“We want to try to get restored, and have it ring on the quarter hour,” he said.
