DOWN TO THE WIRE: Wildcat, Tigers split in opening round

The Red Level Tigers and the Florala Wildcats split games on Tuesday night in the opening round of the 19th Annual Red Level Christmas Tournament.
FLORALA 46,
RED LEVEL 24
The Lady Wildcats came out strong and held off the Lady Tigers for a 46-24 win.
“We started out slow,” Lady Wildcats head coach Troy Stewart said. “We stepped it up at the end. Morgan Jackson really stepped up to lead us tonight.”
Jackson led the Lady Wildcats with 31 points.
RED LEVEL 46,
FLORALA 42
In the final game of the evening, the Tigers fought back to top the Wildcats 46-42.
“I thought we played hard and I was proud of the way that we fought back,” Red Level head coach Allan Catrett said. “Florala is a really good team and Coach Stewart has down a great job. They came in with a great game plan tonight. I’m just glad my guys were able to execute and make shots at the end.”
Heading into the final period, the score was knotted 20-20.
Ontaryo Nearor got at steal and layup to tie the game 42-42 with 1:39 left in the contest.
Nearor then knocked down a pair of free throws to put the Tigers on top.
Kade Green finished off the scoring for the Tigers with layup.
The Tiger varsity boys’ team will take on Andalusia at 7:30 p.m., Thursday.
The Lady Tigers will take on Andalusia at 9 a.m., Thursday.
Florala will take on Carroll at 10:30 a.m, Thursday.
The Lady Wildcats will play Carroll at 6 p.m., Thursday.
