Jo’s Community Dinners served 450 Christmas dinners on Sunday.

Jan Morris, who leads the outreach ministry based at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, said more than 150 dinners were delivered by volunteers, and other meals were served to those who picked up carry-out plates, or dined at the church.

“We appreciate all of the volunteers who helped with this effort,” she said.

Tammy Portemont, who leads the kitchen effort, sad she cooked four turkeys, 14 hams, four cases of green beans four cases of corn, 12 pans of dressing, two pots of giblet gravy, and 800 Sister Schubert rolls.

Volunteers prepped from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Friday, and began cooking at 7 a.m. Christmas morning.

The outreach serves lunch on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It is organized through St. Mary’s with support from other churches, with support also from local civic groups.
