Annie Frances Rawls Godwin

Mrs. Annie Frances Rawls Godwin, age 85 of Troy, formerly a resident of Covington County, went to be with her Savior in the early morning of Wed., Nov. 23, 2016.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m., Sun., November 27, 2016 at Rawls Baptist Church. The Rev. James Hughes and the Rev. Wayne Locklar will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday one hour prior to services.

Mrs. Godwin was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, the Rev. Rex Godwin on August 31th of this year. She was also preceded by her parents, brothers and sisters, and a son-in-law, David Carpenter.

Survivors include her daughters, June (Kenny) Connell and Debby Carpenter; grandchildren, Brandy (Andy) Guy, Dave (Amanda) Carpenter, and Debbie (Dave) Woest; great-grandchildren, Seve Guy, David and Eli Carpenter, and Miles and Max Woest; and sisters-in-law, Laura Godwin, Ouida Rawls.

 

Robbie June Cook Marshall

Robbie June Cook Marshall, 86, died Nov. 2 at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans after a brief illness. Robbie was a veteran, a vibrant redhead, voracious reader and ardent Democrat. She loved this country, especially the South and Southern traditions, and she reveled in the planning and preparing of great food for lively gatherings. Robbie was also a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She frequently was one of the best-dressed ladies in the room and usually was the center of attention.
Robbie was born in Opp, Ala., on June 1, 1930, in the depths of the Depression. She was a cheerleader and graduated from Andalusia High School at the age of 16 before entering Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in Birmingham.  She received her diploma in nursing in 1950. She joined the Air Force as a 2nd LT who served in the 3810th Medical Group at Maxwell Field Air Force Hospital in Montgomery, as a nurse.  She later entered the University of Alabama where she met and married her husband, Bill Marshall. Bill passed away in 1995.
Robbie lived and traveled throughout the U.S. She was a public health nurse and an emergency room nurse in Brownsville, Texas. She also briefly served as adjunct faculty at Texas Women’s University in rehabilitation nursing.
Robbie served as director of nurses at the Manhattan Manor Guest House and Extended Care Facility in New Orleans. She was a supervisor at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, a psychiatric hospital, in Washington, D.C. Robbie moved to Pensacola, Fla., for her husband’s last duty station before retirement as Chief Deputy US Marshal in Pensacola. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of the Pensacola Mardi Gras Krewe Les Gals, the Pensacola Yacht Club, Pensacola Country Club and the Executive Club. She was a parishioner at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pensacola.

Robbie moved to New Orleans a few years ago to reside at The Villas at Woldenberg, an independent living retirement village.
Most importantly, Robbie was the beloved mother of Vicki Marshall Darlington and Michael Eric Marshall; mother-in-law to Cecilia Bolotte Marshall; grandmother to former Capt., USMC, and current law student at Fordham University in New York City, Andrew Darlington; artists Julia Marshall of New Orleans and Caleb Marshall of Boca Raton, Fla.; and sister, Paula Sue Cook Duebelt, of Andalusia.
Robbie’s family and friends mourn the passing of an original. She is deeply missed by all who knew her.
