Yet another amenity will soon be added at the Covington County Miracle League Field, thanks to the generosity of the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charities of Central Alabama.

Eddie Byrd, who works with Murphy Management, owner of the Andalusia McDonald’s and 15 other Wiregrass locations, was on hand Monday afternoon to present a $7,000-plus check to the City of Andalusia. Joining him were Gert and Jerry Murphy, whose son owns Murphy Management.

Since retiring to Alabama, Mrs. Murphy has volunteered her time at the Enterprise store, and said she greets customers and bakes the restaurant’s cookies and pies.

Byrd said the charity is funded by contributions made in boxes at each McDonald’s location, as well as the sales of Happy Meals, the restaurant franchise’s trademark meal for children.

Mayor Earl Johnson said the funds will be used to add some sort of shade to the bleachers at Miracle League Field.

Miracle League President Jill Ainsworth, Homer the mascot, and several Miracle League players were on hand for the presentation Monday.
