The Lower Alabama Arts Coalition will host Beverly Pace for a book signing at 5:30 on Thurs., Nov. 17, in The Gallery.

Pace is the an Andalusia native who recently published “Song of Alabama,” a novel based on her mother’s memories of German POWs working in the area during World War II.

Much of the work came from her imagination, she said in a recent address to the Covington Historical Society.

“It was so interesting that after my book came out, I heard from people whose experiences were so similar to the ones I only imagined,” she said. “During WWII, they captured so many prisoners, they found it almost impossible to house, feed and guard them all while fighting. So they set up POW camps in the United States.”
