The City of Florala on Tuesday dedicated “Lexi’s Lane,” a sidewalk connecting public facilities near the fire department to a new children’s park, in memory of a spunky child who touched the hearts of all who knew her.

Lexi Worrell was 8 when she was accidentally run over by a school bus in 2010. She had overcome scoliosis and hip dysplasia, and didn’t let her physical challenges hold her back from anything she wanted to do.

Her parents, Dennis and Tracey Worrell, and extended members of the family were on hand for the dedication.

“Words cannot express how we feel,” Tracey Worrell said. “It means ever so much for people to remember and to understand.”

“The community has not forgotten,” outgoing Florala Mayor Robert Williamson said.

Much as Lexi overcame her obstacles and lived her life positively, he said, the city’s administration brought a piece of property to life with a beautiful playground.

The project was partially funded by the John and Grace Estep Foundation, and the generous cooperation of contractors.
