Sgt. Roger Cender has been selected as this week’s Officer of the Week at Andalusia Police Department.

Sgt. Cender began his career in law enforcement in 1999.

Throughout his career, Cender has worked in the capacities of corrections officer, patrol officer, narcotics and criminal investigator, and currently serves as patrol sergeant.

He is currently assigned to B-Shift and works under the direction of Lt. Tim Stallworth.

He is the father of two daughters, Tonianne and Chloe.

Sgt. Cender enjoys spending his free time diving on the Gulf Coast and enjoying the water and beaches. When staying close to home, he enjoys cooking for friends and family.

His advice to anyone wanting to join the law enforcement community is to understand that law enforcement is not just a job.

Cender said, “Law enforcement is a calling. We do it because we truly want to help others in all aspects of life not just dealing with criminal matters.”

He developed his love for law enforcement and wanted to join the law enforcement community when he was a child.

He followed his dream and made the dedication and commitment to his choice.

Cender said that he plans to continue his work with Andalusia Police Department and always stay involved long after retirement. He plans to move south after retirement and live on the coast.

“Seventeen years working with Sgt. Cender and he takes every day as an opportunity to help someone.” said Andalusia Police Chief Paul Hudson. “Sgt. Cender has always had and continues to have the mindset of we succeed only if we work as a team. He expects teamwork out of his shift and teamwork from the rest of the Department. If there is truly one statement that I can provide that would be a good example of what Sgt. Cender brings to us at APD, it’s a commitment to the brotherhood. He always lends a listening ear, open heart and mind to all members of the Department.”
