Officer Jimmy Lassiter was week’s Andalusia Police Department officer of the week.

Officer Lassiter began his career in law enforcement in 1988. His career has taken him to departments in Mississippi and Alabama. Locally, he was also employed by the Florala Police Department for a period of three years. He is currently working under the direction of Sgt. Nic Ireland and Lt. Alice Donaldson on C Shift.
Officer Lassiter has four children, 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. In his spare time, he enjoys restoring vintage cars and spending time with friends singing karaoke. His favorite meal would be a ribeye steak, baked potato and a good salad.  When not restoring old cars and singing his favorite tunes, Officer Lassiter enjoys watching the “Tide roll,” and he is a fan of the Andalusia Bulldogs.
He offers the following advice to those who are considering law enforcement as a career, “If you are considering law enforcement you need to be a people person because you deal with all different kinds of people. Be prepared to work long hours, give a lot of your personal life to the career – it can be demanding but it is very rewarding.”
He said he chose a career in law enforcement because he has always enjoyed working with the public and helping people.

He has worked at the Andalusia Police Department for almost nine years.

“We’re like one big family,” he said. “When I began my career I was making $6 an hour. You have to know that you don’t choose this profession for the pay. This career is something that you choose to help make a difference in people’s lives.”
His goals include retirement in the near future, he wants to travel, and enjoy the rest of his years if God is willing.
Chief Paul Hudson said that Lassiter’s work ethic, willingness to volunteer, stepping up and taking on any challenge helps build the department morale.

Every department needs employees who are willing to do not only their jobs, but also a little extra to help out when the opportunity arises, Hudson said.

“Officer Lassiter has never hesitated to help someone on duty or off duty in need. He has a heart of gold and we’re very happy and proud to have him a part of our PD family. We look forward to his last few months with us and hope that the younger officers will learn a lot from Jimmy while he finishes out his watch with our department.”
