AAC seeks donations for local homebound seniors’ Christmas

Christmas may be more than two months away, but the Andalusia Adult Activity Center is calling on the community to help them give.

AAC coordinator Sonja Godwin said that each year the center sponsors senior citizens around the Christmas holiday.

“We try to raise items or funds to help purchase things for them,” she said. “And we try to make something for them.”

In the past, Godwin said they have made lap quilts, placemats and the like.

“We have 39 homebound that we deliver meals to daily,” she said. “But we’ll make 50 because sometimes people come in while others are in the hospital and we want to include them, too.”

Godwin said these senior citizens aren’t able to get out and they want to help them.

Among the donations sought are canned goods, socks, toboggan caps, pillows, food, oatmeal, candy, vegetables and anything else senior adults may enjoy.

Godwin said toiletries are also requested.

Those who prefer to simply give a monetary donation may do so.

In years past, Godwin said they have delivered the items in bags, but this year, they will be giving the items away in boxes.

While the deadline is Dec. 7, AAC employees would love to see donations come in, so they can sort them.
