A Florida man is behind bars after he allegedly contacted a young teenager in Opp.
Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said investigators received a complaint on Sept. 26, that a male adult was contacting a 13-year-old female from Opp via Facebook, and texting her phone.
“This subject was attempting to get the female to meet and leave with him,” McDonald said.
In response, OPD initiated a covert operation and as a result, Timothy Alan Windham, 41, of Westville, Fla., was placed under arrest by OPD investigators in Blountstown, Fla. He is facing an electronic solicitation of a child charge.
McDonald said that Windham is currently awaiting extradition back to Alabama.
“The Opp Police Department would like to thank the Alabama State Bureau of Investigations, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Holmes County, Fla. Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County, Fla. Sheriff’s Department, for their assistance in the investigation, locating and taking Mr. Windham into custody.”
McDonald warned of sexual predators.
“Ladies and gentlemen, the predators are out there,” he said. “They pursue your children and grandchildren. So, who do the kids that you love talk to on Facebook. Who do they text with? How do you know?”
