Approximately 400 people attended the 25th Annual Sav-A-Life Banquet held on Monday evening, Sept. 26, in the Kiwanis Community Center in Andalusia. The evening was a celebration of 25 years of ministry to women, children, and families in the local community.

The banquet program included the recognition of the founding board members. Family members of deceased board members stood to represent their loved ones. The Rev. Gary Miller served as emcee for the banquet. He was also instrumental in establishing the ministry.

Founding board members Pat Northrop and Jan White made comments about the early days of the ministry and the importance of prayer launching and sustaining the ministry.

Sav-A-Life chose as its banquet scripture Psalm 119:90 “Your faithfulness continues from generation to generation” in keeping with the theme, “Faithful and true to all generations.”

The three executive directors who have served in the ministry of Sav-A-Life spoke briefly about their involvement in the ministry. Sandy Robbins, the first executive director, was followed by Amy Davis, and then current executive director, Hannah Cross.

Attendees watched a video message from the first Sav-A-Life Banquet speaker Carrie Gordon Earll who is now a vice president at Focus on the Family in Colorado Springs. The evening included highlights from previous banquets and greetings from former banquet speakers and Christian leaders, including Dr. Tony Evans and Dr. James Dobson.

The banquet also featured special music by Shelia Jackson, from Troy, who has performed for President George Bush and governors throughout the Southeast.

Sav-A-Life of Covington County is a non-profit Christian ministry helping women in crisis pregnancies and teaching life choices like abstinence to youth. It is their mission to be a positive force in our community, reaching people with the love of Christ and bringing people to value the sanctity of human life.
