GULF SHORES — Andalusia ended its season at the Class 4A south regional tournament last weekend in Gulf Shores, losing to St. James, 6-0 and Dallas County, 5-2.
The Lady Bulldogs had a strong start at the tournament, beating Jackson 5-3 in its opening game Friday.
St. James 6, Andalusia 0
The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning when St. James quickly scored three runs on errors and a single to send Andalusia to the losers’ bracket.
St. James’ Alexandra Wise scored on an error; Caroline Alter scored on an error; and then Lauren Henry scored on an RBI single from Kendall Teel.
St. James’ Abbie Pierce and Alter scored on a two-run double from Teel in the seventh inning. Later in the inning, Henry scored on an error.
Andalusia coach Anthony Mikel said he was happy with the way the team “progressed” this year.
“We played good for about five innings (Saturday),” Mikel said. “I’m happy with the way the team has progressed this year. I’m happy with the way that the tournament turned out.
“I wish we could have won a few more games and I wish we could have gone to state, but it just wasn’t in the cards this year,” he said. “I’m proud of how my girls played and the spunk they showed in the last few weeks of the season.”
Dallas County 5, Andalusia 2
Dallas County knocked Andalusia out of the Class 4A south regional tournament Saturday and ended the Lady Bulldogs’ season.
Dallas County scored one run in the first, three runs in the second and one run in the fifth inning.
“I really believe that we improved a lot from the beginning of the season to the last,” Mikel said. “I believe they started to play together and we just ran out of gas — and that was it.”
The Lady Bulldogs finished their season with an 18-18 record.
Andalusia’s baseball and softball teams will be holding their annual spring sports banquet this Thursday night at the Bulldog Bistro at 6:30 p.m.
