Red Level seeking homecoming win

The Red Level Tigers (2-2) are looking for another victory as they host J.F. Shields (0-4) tonight for homecoming in Red Level.
This will be the 13th meeting between the two teams, and Red Level leads the series 7-5. Red Level defeated J.F. Shields 45-0 last season.
“They have low numbers just like we do, but they are very athletic,” Red Level head football coach James Wise said. “They are well coached and I expect it to just be a good high school football game.”
Last week, J.F. Shields fell to Sweet Water 69-0. Through four games, J.F. Shields has been outscored 320-6.
Red Level picked up a big 61-14 region win over Kinston. Through four games, Red Level has outscored their opponents 150-95.
Wise said that senior running back John Lee would still be the focal point of the offense, but that the Tigers will also work on some different aspects to get ready for the crucial three-game region stretch that follows.
“We want to run John (Lee) a good bit on Friday,” Wise said. “We are also going to work on some quick passes because we won’t be able to run John 30 times a game when we face Georgiana, McKenzie and Brantley. When we play those three, we are going to have to have a few more plays in the playbook. We are going to work on some quick passes and try to develop a few more wide receivers.”
When J.F. Shields is on offense, Wise said that the Tigers have to prepare to protect the edges.
“They are a spread team,” Wise said. “They run a lot of quick passes in the flats and try to get to the edge. That’s good for us because we need to work on defending that for when we go up against Georgiana and Brantley.”
Wise said that despite J.F. Shields not having won a game yet this season, the Tigers still have to remain focused on the task at hand.
“This week we have stressed fundamentals,” Wise said. “We still have to go out there and do what we need to do to win. We can’t overlook them because they haven’t won a game this year. They are still going to come in hungry for a win, and we have to be prepared. We can’t beat ourselves with turnovers, bad mistakes or penalties. I want us to go out there and have a good, clean game.”
Kickoff between Red Level and J.F. Shields will be a 7 p.m., tonight at Crystal Springs Park in Red Level. The homecoming parade will begin at noon on Main Street.
