Lorraine Rosealba Garneau
Lorraine Rosealba Garneau, age 73, of Andalusia, originally of Woonsocket, R.I. went to her eternal reward in Heaven to be with God on Sept. 7, 2016.
She was born Nov. 3, 1942, in Woonsocket, R.I., to Marie Godfroy Garneau and Louis Garneau. Ms. Lorraine lived most of her life in Woonsocket; Glen Burnie, Md.; Pine Mountian Valley, Ga.; and Andalusia; with numerous tours of duty to Germany and various temporary duty assignments to other countries.
She was a devout Catholic from birth, except the last decade of her life she became member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She volunteered her time and effort to the church’s thrift shop to help raise money. Lorriane was known throughout the community as a devoted and caring person. She was proud and grateful for the opportunity to visit Jerusalem and swim in the Dead Sea. Lorraine was an enthusiastic volksmarcher and bowler, of which her wall of medals and trophies testify, too. She volksmarched through many mountains around the world. One of her greatest joys in life was her dedicated, devoted, and unselfish service to her country in which she spent 16 consecutive years in the U.S. Army. Lorraine performed the duties of an O.R. technician and was frequently requested by name by various surgeons to scrub on their cases due to proficiency, integrity, and initiative to always be ready for whatever was needed.
She was a life member of the Women’s Army Corps Association, Disabled American Veteran, Vietnam Veteran Association, and the American Legion. She was the founder and president of the Women’s Army Corps Association Georgia Peach Chapter 104 of Pine Mountain Valley, Ga.
Ms. Lorraine possessed a deep devoted love for all animals and was very passionate about the rescuing of unwanted and sick animals. She was well known in the community for her compassion for all animals and was often found at local vet offices donating items needed for the care of the animals.
Ms. Lorraine was preceded in death by her mother, Marie Garneau, and father, Louis Garneau, maternal and paternal grandparents, and all aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her best friend and caregiver of more than 50 years, Verta C. Brown; a great niece she helped raise, Ayla Verta-Lyn Lamb; her sisters, Louie Loye, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Terry Therien of Woonsocket, R.I.; her brother, Louie Garneau of Lowell, Mass.; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom she loved with a deep seeded passion. Ms.Lorraine (Frenchie) leaves a deep gaping void in this world which will never be filled. Rest in Peace my friend, God holds you in the hollow of his hand.
