The 10 provisional ballots cast in Andalusia’s municipal elections were recounted Tuesday night with two representatives of the media and two elected officials as witnesses after a resident claimed only eight of them should have been counted.

A local resident claimed he had been told by Virginia Merritt of the Covington County Board of Registrars that only eight of the provisional ballots were to be counted; as new Board of Education member Tommy Wright won by two votes, the resident said, the ballots he alleged to be incorrectly counted could have made a difference.

City clerk John Thompson, who served as the chief election official, opened the sealed ballot box and confirmed that there were 10 ballots, and that each had been certified valid by the registrars.
