Local woman ministering to hurting

A local woman is reaching out to those who are hurting.

Kim Olson moved locally in 2010 and brought with her a ministry she has been working in since 1994 – Journey 2 Freedom.

0817-Kim-OlsonOlson has been using confidential Bible studies to help those who have experienced miscarriages, loss of a child, post-abortion, and other losses causing lifestyle change.

The ministry is donor-funded and completely confidential.

“We have four groups going per week and a waiting list,” she said.

Each Bible study has a max of four participants.

“We sign confidentiality forms,” she said. “And we don’t acknowledge each other in public.”

Olson said sometimes Sav-A-Life refers participants to her.

“It’s a stand-alone ministry,” she said. “I have usually done this through a pregnancy center or church.”

Olson said in 1994, she was working at a pregnancy center and realized there were several ladies in her church who needed the resources.

Since then, she’s dedicated her life to helping people get their freedom.

Later she moved to Texas, where there was no ministry at all.

“I went to Portland and got trained,” she said.

And she started training others to help do the same thing.

She has trained people at Dr. Tony Evans’ church, and at First Baptist Church, and others.

She’s also worked in Tennessee, Indiana and abroad in places such as South Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, St. Lucia and more.

“I train people to facilitate,” she said. “And do a pastor’s workshop on how to help people through the grieving process.”

She said that the workshops are for lay ministers, professional counselors, counselors, and pastors.”

The training sessions are to help others minister as she does to those who are hurting.

Through the sessions, participants are restored to freedom and forgiveness, Olson said.

“A lot know they are forgiven, but not free,” she said.
