If you have never been to a Barrel Bash, the Covington Cowgirls Drill Team invites you to come enjoy the fun this weekend August 19-21. The free event takes place in the Covington Arena.
Grounds open at 4 p.m. on Friday with exhibitions from 6-7 p.m. Jackpot follows with a $100 added jackpot at 7 p.m.
On Saturday, books open at 8 a.m. with exhibitions from 8-11 a.m. Cowboy Church begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday, and books open at 9 a.m. with exhibitions from 9-11 a.m.
“We are excited to be hosting this event,” said Tricia Courson, drill team coach. “This is a change for us to host the Barrel Bash instead of the rodeo we usually host in the fall.”
In addition to some great riding, there will also be daily prizes. On Saturday and Sunday, Most Patriotic Contestant Prizes will be presented.
The Barrel Bash is the major fundraiser for the drill team and the proceeds help with the many worthwhile causes the group supports, which include a scholarship program that goes to local students. In addition, the drill team gives to several local charities and to special needs classes in the county school system.
“This is a great time for the whole family,” said Courson. “It is free to the public, so we invite everyone to join us.”
Courson said the drill team had great response for sponsors. The main event sponsors include ALFA-Troy Bryant, Davis and Associates, SunSouth, Undergroud 23 LLC, and Shannon Bryant Automotive and Towing.
“We also have a number of Gold, Silver and Bronze Sponsors,” Courson said. “Look for their names at the event. We appreciate every one of them helping us make this possible.”
The drill team also sponsors a trail ride that benefits St. Judes Children’s Hospital and one that helps area special needs classes.
