A farmer’s market will be coming to Opp soon.
Crossover Ministry, Covington County’s faith-based recovery program, has plans to move its market from Highway 84 to the Opp Bypass near Custom Collars.
Crossover Director Todd Sasser said he is very excited.
“We have been praying about this for a while,” he said.
Sasser said the ministry hopes to take advantage of the traffic that comes through.
“We want people when they leave Birmingham to know this is somewhere they want to stop,” he said.
Board member Josh Driver said that access to the current location has been an issue and that they have been looking for a permanent location.
“We have the labor and we hope to start as soon as possible,” he said.
The farmer’s market is expected to be about 3,000 square feet. They have partnered with Troy Hudson of Southern Engineering Solutions in Andalusia to help with the plans.
Driver said the location is high visibility and they have modeled the market after Durbin Farms in Clanton.
The city council agreed to work on an agreement to help Crossover with the land for the produce stand.
“We are excited and we want to help,” Mayor John Bartholomew said.
