Terry Powell has announced is seeking reelection to the Andalusia City Council representing District 5.
Powell recently retired from Amoco Fabrics & Fibers/Shaw Industries after 40 years in the financial arena. Powell said he has used that experience to work closely with the mayor, council, and city clerk to improve the city’s financial reporting and budgeting.
“In the past four years, we have reduced debt, restructured the airport debt to eliminate potential city liability of approximately $ million, grown our retail base by adding Zaxby’s, CVS, and others,” he said. “We have agreements in place to bring Big Mike’s Steak and Seafood to our downtown area and to refurbish the theater.
“We have worked with our Chamber of Commerce to expand cAndy Land Christmas on the Square to include Springdale,” he said. “July Jamz on the lawn at Springdale is in its second year. Both events are not only ‘quality of life’ events but they bring visitors in to our community that in turn spend money with our merchants.
“We have gotten grants to add sidewalks with the Westside Project,” he said. “They were added on Church Street, Snowden Drive, and Prestwood Bridge Road. In 2017 The Eastside Project will start with sidewalks being put on Lindsey Bridge Road to Maple Street and on Stanley Avenue.
“It has been an honor to represent the people of Andalusia for the past 12 years,” Powell said. “If reelected, I will work with the incoming administration to continue looking to bring new businesses to our area, work to clean the remaining blighted areas, and to keep Andalusia as Alabama’s Top Town.
“As in the past I will continue to represent the citizens of District 5, and all other citizens with honesty and integrity,” he said.
Municipal elections are Tues., Aug. 23.
