Dallas Henderson said his luck had to change this past weekend.
Henderson, who plays dominoes almost every day, said he hadn’t won in almost two weeks. By after drawing Alton Mitchell of Wetumpka as a doubles partner in the Andalusia Rotary Club’s World Championship Domino Tournament Saturday, Henderson made it to the finals, where the pair bested second place winners Macky Barnes of Booneville, Miss., and R.L. Orsak of Hallettsville, Texas, for the championship.
Henderson, who has an Andalusia address but said, “be sure and print that I’m from Cedar Grove,” has only missed the tournament once in its 41-year history. He won the single championship in 1978, and the doubles in 1982.
Mitchell previously won the doubles championship in 1979 and 2003. They won $1,500 each.
Third place in the doubles competition went to Michael Haire of Booneville, Miss., and Pleasant Parker of Hartford Ala.; fourth place went to Robert Hadley of Uriah, Ala., and Tracy Dixon of Chicago, Ill.
