The Opp 19U Dixie Majors got a hot start to the 2016 Dixie Majors District 6 tournament with a 16-3 victory over Covington County.

“We came out and hit the ball really well,” Opp Dixie Majors head coach Zach Spann said. “Prior to the district tournament, we had been a little slump, but I think we are starting to peak at the right time.”

Spann said the pitching staff and batters have done a great job for Opp this season.

“We have a ton of arms that can all throw strikes,” Spann said. “They have done outstanding for us all year long, and with our bats, I know that we can score runs on anyone.”

One thing Spann said the team has to improve is on the defensive side.

“Our Achilles heel has been our defense,” Spann said. “That’s the biggest area we need to improve on. We have just made way too many errors. We gave up three runs against Covington County and all three were unearned runs that were direct results of our errors.”

Reagan Thomas had a big day at the dish for Opp going 2-for-4 with two singles and three runs scored.

Cale Pierce finished the game 2-for-4 with a single, triple, one RBI and two runs scored.

Cody Rhodes picked up the win on the mound for Opp.

Opp will play tonight at 7 p.m., for the district championship against the winner between Covington County and Brewton.
