Two locals received the first ever Albert Dewayne Bonam Foundation scholarships. An award ceremony and memorial was held in late May at Holy Tabernacle Church of the Deliverance. The ceremony consisted of a balloon release for the life of Bonam, who was diagnosed with heart disease and passed away on Nov. 11, 2015. The foundation’s main goals are to honor, promote and invest. This year’s recipients are Destini Benson of Andalusia High School, who will attend Alabama A&M and Raheem Bonam of Opp High School, who will attend Northeast College in Booneville, Miss.
