A quick severe weather system made its way through Covington County Friday evening leaving damage to several homes and left thousands without power.

Covington County EMA Director Susan Harris said she was still in the process of collecting information Monday afternoon.

She said she was awaiting a report from E-911, which should be completed early this week.

“We had numerous trees down and power outages,” she said. “We also had three homes that had minor damage.”

Harris said the homes were throughout the county and not concentrated to one area.

“It was just a quick system that came through with high winds,” she said.

Covington Electric Cooperative officials said at the peak of the storm they had more than 3,000 members without power across the service territory.

Crews worked all night to restore power.

An outage over the weekend near Old Salt Road and Cataline Bridge Road was necessary to replace a severely damaged three-phase pole and impacted 285 member.

As of Monday morning, all power had been restored.

In Opp, Utilities Manager Stacey Parker said that they didn’t experience as much damage as in the past, but they had several outages and their electric crew worked until 1:30 a.m. Saturday restoring power.

Gov. Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency after 50,000 Alabamians were without power .
