Every teacher in the Andalusia City Schools system will start the new school year with a brand new MacBook Pro after the board on Wednesday approved a new lease with Apple.
The board’s previous lease with Apple recently ended. With funds generated by the city’s sales tax for education, the board entered a new lease for 300 computers.
Superintendent Ted Watson said one of the issues faced in the past was having hardware in the hands of all teacher that was consistent and up to date.
“In some cases, they were reluctant to take something new,” he said. “This lease lets us put brand new machines in the hands of all of our teachers.”
Included in the negotiations with the computer giant is six days of professional development training, and 80 iPads for elementary students.
