The Department of Labor estimates 4 million workers will be affected by the new overtime rules, which will affect some currently-salaried employees.

The U.S. Department of Labor in May released its much-anticipated final rule that raises the white collar overtime exemption threshold under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The new regulations take effect on Dec. 1, 2016.

To help local employers prepare for the changes, the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce will host a seminar from 11:30 until 1:30 on Tues., July 12.

Topics include:

• How to properly determine if your current exempt positions pass the duties test.

• What types of alternative pay arrangements should you consider?

• What to do about managing electronic devices and overtime.

• What penalties you may face for not complying with the new regulations.

The seminar will be conducted by Dan Sinas, vice-president of Human Resources and Risk Management for the PR Companies (PRemployer; Personnel Resources; Preferred Risk Services).

Sinas has conducted hundreds of seminars on employment law compliance, management training, performance management, effective interviewing, and many other topics related to employee management, and has been a keynote speaker for Chambers of Commerce, trade associations, business groups, and private companies.

Online registration is available, or contact the chamber at 222-2030.
