Local residents gathered over the weekend to begin raising funds for a local man recently diagnosed with lymphoma.
Trevor’s Troops, a group designed to rally behind Trevor Clark and his family, held a car wash at Advanced Auto and bagged groceries all day Friday and Saturday at Cost Plus.
“Trevor’s friends all helped,” said organizer Stephanie Fore. “We had some who didn’t know Trevor, but wanted to help as well. It was a huge turnout.”
Fore said that the there was a need to raise money quickly because Clark’s family needed help with the costs of staying in Birmingham. Clark is 18 and is in Birmingham to receive chemotherapy.
“They were unable to get into the Ronald McDonald House,” she said. “So our priority was making sure they had a place to stay so that they could be with Trevor.”
Fore said the fundraisers were pulled together over a few days and they turned out great.
“Everyone worked together and we did get this family’s housing covered for the first month. It’s going to be a long road, but we will not abandon them.”
Fore said the group is working to organize some bigger events in the future.
Those who were not able to give this weekend, but would like to help, can call Fore at 222-2873 about making donations.
She said Clark’s mom, Dawn Turner, is working to get a benefit bank account set up.
“I will be making deposits into the benefit account as it’s set up,” she said. “We also have donation buckets set up at many of the local stores.”
