SHS falls in South Regional

The Straughn Lady Tigers had their strong season come to end on Saturday in the Class 4A South Regional softball tournament in Gulf Shores.
Straughn got off to good start with a win over Thomasville on Friday night, but found themselves in the loser’s bracket after falling to LAMP.
Saturday the Lady Tigers were eliminated after falling to area rival Headland 5-4.
Headland got things going in the bottom of the first inning with two straight singles and error led to Lady Rams scoring the first run.
The next batter hit a hard ground ball to Molly Stewart at shortstop who fired to Kristin Peavey at first for the first out of the inning, but the play allowed the Lady Rams to go on top 2-0.
A wild pitch led to the Lady Rams taking a 3-0 lead into the second inning.
Hayden Willis singled with one-out in the top of the second, but the Lady Tigers were unable to move her around to score.
Headland added to their lead with a two-out single in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 lead into the third.
In the top of the third inning, Dallas Mackoff reached on error on hard ground ball to third base.
Carolina Fussell moved her around to second with a sacrifice and then Stewart ripped a double into left field to make the score 4-1.
The Lady Tigers defense stepped up in the bottom of the third and retired the Lady Rams in order.
Straughn got another base runner in the top of the fourth inning after Peavey laced a single into the outfield, but the scored remained 4-1.
Straughn’s defense and strong pitching from Willis retired the Lady Rams in order in the bottom of the fourth inning.
The score remained 4-1 until the top of the sixth inning when the Lady Tigers came back up to bat.
Brentley Armstrong drove a one-out single to center and the moved up to second on a single to left from Peavey.
Willis then came up and crushed a ball over the fence in the left to knot the game up 4-4 heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Straughn held the Lady Rams off the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning, but a two-out single in the seventh game Headland a 5-4 win and eliminated Straughn from the playoffs.
