Win over Millry sets up long day for PHS

The Pleasant Home Lady Eagles pounded the softball Friday morning and held off Millry for a 9-3 win in an elimination game in the Class 1A South Regional softball tournament in Gulf Shores.
Tammi Hilson lined out to the pitcher to start the game and then Anna Bulger followed with a single to left. Bulger promptly stole second and third base, but the Lady Eagles were unable to push her across for the first run of the game.
In the pitcher’s circle, Tiffany Knoll worked a quick opening frame to get the Lady Eagles back in the dugout.
Amy Bulger was the first batter for the Lady Eagles in the top of the second and she quickly got things started with rip to left for a single. Amy Bulger moved to second on throwing error and then Sissy Martin laced single to the gap to put Pleasant Home on top 1-0.
A few batters later, Hope Gunter delivered an RBI single to put the Lady Eagles on top 2-0.
Millry knotted the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third when the Millry catcher drove in a pair of runs with a double to the gap in left center.
Pleasant Home jumped back out front in the top of the fourth inning when Hilson drove in Bella Worley for a 3-2 Lady Eagle lead.
Camille Holley then came in to score when the Millry pitcher was called for an illegal pitch.
In the bottom of the fourth, Knoll picked up a pair of strikeouts and kept the Lady Eagles out front 4-2 heading into the fifth inning.
Cassidy Godwin drew a walk to start the top of the fifth inning and Amy Bulger moved her over to third with a single. Amy Bulger then darted to second drawing a throw that allowed Godwin to come around to score.
Holley then drove in Amy Bulger with a single to left that put Pleasant Home on top 6-2.
Millry threatened in the bottom of the fifth, but the the Lady Eagles defense stayed strong and kept the score at 6-2.
Pleasant Home plated two more runs in the top of the sixth inning off a couple of passed balls.
Gunter nearly homered in the top of the seventh after sending a ball off the top of the fence in dead center. Gunter then came around to score on ball hit by Anna Bulger to put the Lady Eagles up 9-2.
Millry added one more run.
