A Straughn High School senior got a chance of a lifetime earlier this month while representing 4-H.
Kayla Mitchell, who is a state 4-H Ambassador, traveled to the National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C.
“Delegates from all over the states, Canada and Puerto Rico participated,” she said. “We got to meet and talk with our congress people and that was pretty cool.”
She got to spend about a week in the nation’s capital.
While she was there, she met with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.
“We worked together to do a presentation on how to better include students with disabilities in programs,” she said. “We got to present it to people who make the decisions.”
Mitchell said her favorite part was visiting the Library of Congress.
“It was so beautiful,” she said.
Mitchell plans to attend Troy University in the fall and major in chemistry or biomedical sciences.
“I want to do something like veterinary science or pharmaceutical sciences,” she said.
She is the daughter of Michael and Joyce Mitchell.
