DTF nets ‘Red P’ meth lab bust

An Opp couple is behind bars and is facing a slew of felony drug charges.
The 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force and the Opp Police Department responded to a residence at the 300 block of Hattaway Road after receiving information from a concerned citizen.
Opp Police Chief Mike McDonald said that as a result of an investigation by DTF agents, agents and officers secured a working red phosphorous methamphetamine lab.
Red phosphorus labs have become scare since pseudoephedrine laws were implemented several years ago.
Agents arrested Virgil Frederick Heiken, 42, of Opp and Sandra Renee Heiken, 39, of Opp.
The were charged with manufacturing first degree, trafficking, chemical endangerment of a child, and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.
Bond was set at $1.5 million each and they are being held in the Covington County Jail.
