A Covington County grand jury indicted a 23-year-old male on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges recently.

Richard Tyler Payne was arrested on Wednesday by the Covington County Sheriff’s office. 

Payne’s indictments are:

• Unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle, a class C felony. According to the indictment, Payne allegedly broke into a woman’s Nissan Altima.

• Theft of property II, a class C felony. The indictment says that Payne did knowingly obtain or exert unauthorized control over and or did obtain by deception control over, a wallet and or debit card with the intent to deprive the owner of her property.

• Fraudulent use of credit card, a class C felony. The grand jury found that Payne did use, attempt to use a credit card or debit card, specifically a Regions bank Visa Card, for the purpose of obtaining property, services or anything else of value with knowledge that the card was stolen.

• Forgery II, a class C felony. According to the indictment, Payne, used the debit card at the Cenergy on Brooklyn Road in the amount of $4.34, and “did, with intent to defraud, falsely make, complete or alter a written instrument, which was or purported to be, or which was calculate to become or to represent, if completed, a check, draft, note or other commercial instrument.”

He was also indicted on misdemeanor charges of unlawful possession of marijuana II and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked into the Covington County Jail on a $90,000 bond.
