A storm system that moved through Covington County late Monday caused considerable damage and minor injuries.

Covington County EMA Director Susan Harris said a tornado was confirmed in the northwest corner of the county, and a second wind system moved from the Heath area to the northeast.

“We have numerous trees down, power lines down, and several homes damaged,” Harris said. “We won’t have a number until we get some daylight to assess the damages.”

One person received minor injuries, she said.

The storm also knocked out power for approximately 1,550 Covington Electric customers. When The Star-News went to press just after 10:30 p.m. Monday, CEC was still reporting outages in the Red Level area and an area behind the airport.
