Invitation to talk politics extended

Dear editor:

(As per The Star-News last Wednesday) The GOP is sponsoring a candidate forum in Florala on Tues., Feb. 23, which will again consist of a free meal for attendees and with each candidate being given five uninterrupted minutes to deliver a prepared speech. But nothing else. No kidding. What a debate!

Well, Buster would like to invite all the Republican candidates to take to the stage to answer questions, exchange ideas, and engage in verbal slugfests for Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 15, at 1 p.m. at the cultural oasis known as Joe’s Barista in Andalusia. Free for all to attend, but no free meal. Buy your own coffee and food, for goodness sakes. Unfortunately no beer or wine, free or otherwise.

We had a real debate between Greg White and Bill Godwin at Joe’s with each doing a fine job.

Oh so sad, however, that neither Cory Bryan nor Judge Ben Bowden accepted our previous invitation to debate. Therefore, Buster reluctantly but sacrificially accepts his own invitation to represent either or both of these judicial candidates and answer hard questions on their behalf if they do not show up this time to participate. But we hope they do.

Let us all celebrate President’s Day in a good old-fashioned holiday God Bless America way!

Buster Boyd

Editor’s note: Mr. Boyd contacted the newspaper on Friday to say that a question and answer session might be added to the GOP forum in Florala. “I understand now that there likely will be a Q & A at the candidates’ forum in Florala. PTL,” he noted.
