Twice as much rain in January this year

The Choctawhatchee, Pea and Yellow Rivers Watershed Management Authority recorded twice as much rain in Covington County in January as the same period a year ago.

River level gauges at Yellow River on Hwy. 55 showed six inches of rain in January, compared to 3.02 inches in the same period last year.

Gauges recorded 5.84 inches of rain in January at Yellow River on Hwy. 84. Comparison data for that location was not available, as the gauges have been in place less than a year.

The average rainfall total for the 22 gauges monitor in Barbour, Coffee, Covington, Dale, Geneva, Henry, Houston and Pike counties was 4.97 inches for January, compared to 3.02 inches last year.
