Emma Jean Maddox-Peacock

On Dec. 13, 2015, Emma Jean Maddox-Peacock passed away peacefully with her son, Bill Peacock, and pastor, Dr. Tripp Martin in prayer.

Born in Dothan, Ala., on April 6, 1925, she was 90 years old. She was the third child of eight of Katie Belle and John Matthew Maddox.

She is preceded in death by her child, Paul Leslie Peacock; husband, Curtis Frank Peacock; her mom and dad; beloved sister, Sally Maddox-Edson; her brother, Glen Nichols Maddox; her brother, John Hayes Maddox; and sister-in-law, Ruth, and brother-in-law, Grey Holt Edwards.

As a young woman Emma was playful and energetic and known to walk about on her hands. While never having a desire for accolades, she did love to compete, at anything, from playing cards to tennis. She loved sports of all kinds and encouraged her children to participate. Emma married her high school sweetheart, Curtis, and was married for 54 years until his passing in March of 2001. Emma graduated from Auburn University in 1947 with a B.S. from the College of Chemistry and after rearing all of her children, was driven to seek her laboratory technology license and worked several years in a pathology lab in northern Virginia.

She valued education and enjoyed continuing to learn throughout her life and strengthening her faith through study and prayer. Emma loved all of her family dearly. She was a true ambassador of her faith and Southern heritage on her storied journey raising a family across 16 states and one foreign country. She led her five children by example to embrace the diverse cultures of the wonderful places they each called home, while touching the lives of many along the way.

Emma is survived by her five children, Curtis Frank Peacock, Jr. and wife Faye, Emily Kay Peacock Bailey and husband Charles, Buena Jean Peacock, William Matthew Peacock, Clara Peacock Beckett and husband Jim; her siblings, Margaret Maddox-Edwards, Kenneth Maddox and sister-in-law Joanne, James Maddox, William Maddox and sister-in-law Triva Maddox; 15 grandchildren Craig Loucka, Wesley Loucka and wife Radka, Christina Loucka, Charles E. Bailey, III and wife Rhonda, Emily Bailey and husband Victor, Jessica Peacock Grissom and husband Kenneth “Trey,” Cecelia Maria Mitchell and husband Rockwell, Elisa Bailey Bowles and husband Johne, Erilynne Bailey Tucker, Seph Henry, Jimmy Beckett, Tess Henry, Brittany Peacock and Emma Beckett; 15 great-grandchildren, Isabell, Simone, Madelyn, Jacob, Brandi, Brianna, Gregory, Michael, Johne-Bailey, Arley, Jackson, Ellie, Gabriella, Ryland and Cherylanne; and many nieces, nephews and extended family she held so dear.

A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Auburn on Thurs., Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Sat., Dec. 19, at the Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Andalusia at 2 p.m. with Foreman Funeral Home officiating. Visitation will precede the service at 1:30 with the burial and reception immediately following at the Pleasant Home Cemetery and Fellowship Hall.

Willis Flavil Grantham

Mr. Willis Flavil Grantham, 86, of Heath community, passed away Tues., Dec. 15, 2015, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thurs., Dec. 17, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Terry Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Heath Church of Christ Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Foreman Funeral Home.

He is survived by his brother, R. D. Grantham of Andalusia; his grandchildren, Amanda Grantham Henderson of Mobile, Matthew Grantham of Baltimore, MD, Galen Grantham of Ft. Drum, NY, Jaron Grantham and Judd Grantham of Mobile; his nephews, Mark (Ann) Grantham of Andalusia, Tim (Vicki) Grantham of Enterprise, Phil (Myra) Grantham of Andalusia; and many great nieces and nephews.

Brooks Dewayne Lawson

Mr. Brooks Dewayne Lawson, Jr., “Koot,” 55, of Andalusia, passed away Sun., Dec. 13, 2015, at his residence.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, Wed., Dec. 16, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Frankie McVay officiating. Interment will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Tracie Lawson; his son, Brooks Dewayne “Trae” Lawson, III; a daughter, Taylor Brooke Lawson; his parents, Ben and Joyce Crowell; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Tommy and Lisha Lawson, Tim and Tracy Lawson, all of Andalusia, Benji and LiGaya Crowell of Stratford, CT, and Blake and Vivian Crowell of Boston, MA; and a sister, Darlene Campbell of Andalusia.

Georgette Black Pass

Georgette Black Pass, 94, went home to be with her Lord Sun., Dec. 13, 2015. She is survived by her husband of 77 years, Richard Pass.

Survivors include her children, Barbara (Louis) Lynn of Mexico Beach, Fla., and Deborah Lynn (Karon) Norris of Andalusia;

grandchildren, Louis D. Lynn, Jr., David Alan Lynn, Keith (Lynda) Lynn, Kristi (Ray) O’Brien and Kimberly (Seale) Caton; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren (one deceased);

three step-great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild

Besides being a homemaker, she spent several years as a church secretary and bookkeeper; teaching Sunday school in various churches and playing the piano or singing solos.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Wed., Dec. 16, 2015, by Dr. Fred Karthaus III and the Rev. John Hunt at the First Baptist Church of Andalusia where she was a member for many years. Burial will be held in the Andalusia Memorial cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Keith Lynn, Louis Lynn, Karon Norris and Eric Demond Lynn, Herb Carlise and Gillis Jones.

 

Trudy Vickers

Mrs. Trudy Vickers, 77, of Andalusia went to be with her Lord and Savior, Sun., Dec. 13, 2015.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wed., Dec. 16, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Andalusia with Dr. Fred Karthaus III officiating. Special music will be provided by Don Lingle. Interment will follow in the Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church until time of services.

Survivors include her husband and best friend of 41 years, R. Gordon Vickers of Andalusia; two sons, Eddie (Felicia) Miller of Seal Beach, Calif., and Embry Miller of Jackson, Ala.; lifelong step-children, Rodney (Tina) Vickers of Citronelle, Ala., Tammy V. (John) Everett of Cropwell, Ala., and Ronald (Rena) Vickers of Bay Minette, Ala.; and 11 grandchildren, Bailey Harris, Claire Miller, Embry Miller II, Tasha Sellers, Rodney Vickers, Michael Alexander II, Valerie (Tess) Childress, Roger Alexander, Ronald Vickers and Josh Vickers. She also was blessed with many great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vickers was preceded in death by her parents, Embry Edward and Vermell Adams; her brother, Henry Edward Adams; sister, Carolyn Love Adams; and one grandchild, Ashleigh.

Mary Evelyn Chappell

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Chappell, 65, of Dozier passed away Sun., Dec. 13, 2015, at Mizell Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wed., Dec. 16, 2015, at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Durwood Cleland officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Survivors include her husband, David Robert Chappell of Dozier; daughter, Brandi (Jeremy) Fowler of Andalusia; brother, Russell (Sarah) Maloy of Ashford, Ala.; sister, Dorothy Lumpkin of Andalusia; and grandchild, Noah Fowler.
