It was truly a community Christmas this week at Red Level’s Community Christmas celebration.

Red Level Band Director Demetrius Scott said that members of A Touch of Class concert band and the Sound of Gold concert band joined together to perform Tuesday night.

“Will (Parker) and I decided to do a joint performance due to so many of our students participating in numerous extracurricular activities outside of band,” Scott said. “The collaboration made the groups stronger and students from both schools made many new friends.”

Scott said the students were very excited to work together to make beautiful Christmas music.

Some 300 people attended the program.

“The bands would like to thank the Covington County Board of Education, Covington County Schools Superintendent Shannon Driver, RLHS Principal Randy McGlaun, RLES Principal Chris Thomasson, SHS Principal John Evers, SMS Principal Cassandra Scott, Community Christmas Coordinators Victoria Adams and Michael Bush, an all of the parents and band boosters of Red Level and Straughn.”

Scott said that local churches including River Falls Baptist Church youth group, Pigeon Creek Baptist Church and Burning Bush Revival Center and John Chapelle, pastor of South Church of God, gave the devotion. RLHS student council president Donnamy Steele delivered the opening prayer. RLHS seventh grader Katelyn Griggs and her mother, Amanda Griggs, also participated.
