Saturday morning, the Andalusia Youth Football League will host their Second Annual Big Iron Bowl Invitational at Andalusia Memorial Stadium. All three Super Bowl Champion AYFL teams will participate in the event. Nine other teams from five different areas and three different leagues have accepted invitations after making bids to attend. In the Tiny Mite Division, teams from Brewton, Florala and Highland Home will compete. In the Termite Division, teams from Brewton, McKenzie and Red level will match up. In the Pee Wee Divisions, teams will come from Florala, Brewton and McKenzie.
AYFL President Dodd Riley said he and the Board of Directors are very excited about the event. “We have worked very hard to make this a great day of football for all involved. Last year was a huge success, but we learned a great deal and we believe we have improved the tournament.”
Riley said that invitations were sent to several teams in South Alabama and the response was large. “We received numerous bids, but we chose these teams based on regular season win/loss records. Simply put, we tried to assemble some of the best youth football programs in our area.”
The invitational tournament will be a single elimination event.
For the second straight year, the tournament is sponsored by Big Iron Environmental, Inc. Owners Jimmy and Kristy O’Brien have donated $500 per division as prize money for the event. “That kind of money can go a long way to help buy new equipment and uniforms for youth football programs. “ Riley said.
The Andalusia Youth Football League would like to invite the public to come out and support all of these area teams. “We have made plans to accommodate a very large crowd Saturday. The future of Andalusia football will be playing this Saturday, so we want everyone to come see what that looks like.” Riley added.
Play will begin at 8:30 AM. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 kids 7-12, 6 and under are free. Concessions will be available.
