The St. James Lady Trojans eliminated the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs from the playoffs with a sweep Saturday in the opening round the of the AHSAA Class 4A South Super Regional in Montgomery.

With the win the Lady Trojans clinched a spot in the state tournament in Birmingham.

Andalusia started off the first game with 1-0 lead, but three-straight points from St. James gave the Lady Trojans a 3-1 lead.

Millie Manring got a strong kill that helped start a short rally for the Lady Bulldogs. Haley Ballard came up with a big block at the net that put the Lady Bulldogs on top 4-3.

St. James tied the game back up at 4-4, but Caroline Andrews got a kill to give Andalusia a 5-4 advantage.

The Lady Trojans once again tied the contest up, but an ace from Rachel Dayton and kill from Andrews put the Lady Bulldogs back out front, 8-5.

Once again, the Lady Trojans battled back to tie the game, but another short run by the Lady Bulldogs helped Andalusia go up 10-8.

The Lady Trojans then proceeded to go on 17-1 run on the way to defeating the Lady Bulldogs 25-11 in game one.

Ballard got the Lady Bulldogs out front 2-0 to start the second game, and an ace from Haley Harper put Andalusia up 5-2.

The Lady Trojans responded to take a 6-5 lead, but a tip from Andrews tied the contest up 6-6.

Harper made a great play few points later when she laid out and made a big dig that lead to a point for Lady Bulldogs.

However, the Lady Trojans continued to pour on the points on the way to a 25-12 win in game two.

The Lady Trojans raced out front in the third game and held a 14-3 lead before a kill from Andrews sparked a little life into the Lady Bulldogs.

St. James continued to wear out the ball and went on top 24-6.

With elimination one point away, the Lady Bulldogs started to mount a comeback thanks to an ace from Manring and big kill from Ballard, but the Lady Bulldogs come up on the short end of a 25-13 final.
