Illegal prescription pills landed three men in the Covington County Jail Wednesday.

Opp Police Department investigators were conducting an investigation in reference to an assault of a female resident and the theft of her cell phone, Chief Mike McDonald said.

While investigators were attempting to contact the subject in the 200 block of West Stewart Avenue.

Investigators contacted Michael Benjamin Holder, 24, of Westville, Fla., and Zachary Baker Lee, of Bonifay, Fla., who were in the area and acting suspiciously.

“This contact resulted in both Holder and Lee being detained by the investigators and later arrested by agents of the 22nd Judicial Drug Task Force for the unlawful possession of a controlled substance,” McDonald said. “OPD criminal investigators and drug task force agents returned to the residence with a search warrant for the person of Rudy Spencer Jones, 57-of-age male resident of Opp in reference to the assault and the theft of the cell phone.”

Jones was charged with one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also charged with third-degree assault and first-degree theft of property.

McDonald said local law enforcement officials continue to warn citizens of the dangers associated with the abuse of prescription medications.

“When abused or improperly used, many of these medications may either kill you or subject you to a life of addiction,” he said. “Follow your medical doctor’s instructions on the use of these medications. If you have a problem concerning the use of prescription medications, seek help now.”
