Covington County Schools are poised to potentially end the last fiscal year with more sales tax receipts than budgeted.
Ressie Gray, chief financial officer for the system, said that the system saw a $1,433 increase in revenue from July to August, and that there was a $15,246 increase when comparing August 2014 to August 2015.
“Last August, we took in $186,677 and this year, we took in $201,924,” she said. “We are pretty well on track. If everything goes like I think it will, we should meet what we budgeted and we might even take in a little more, but I won’t know for sure until we actually receive September’s payments.”
Gray said that she’s not sure what exact reason for the increase is.
“I know with school starting, you had that tax-free holiday, but maybe people were able to do a little bit more this year.”
Gray said she hopes the increases will continue into the new fiscal year.
Ad valorem receipts are level she said.
