Organizers of the Andalusia Police Department’s second annual National Night Out called it a success.

APD Police Chief Paul Hudson said he estimated between 500 and 600 residents at the event held Tuesday night.

National Night Out is a nationwide annual event held to help build police-community relationships and bring police officers and citizens together in a positive atmosphere.

“This helps to make our city safer and bring back a sense of community,” said Allen Scofield, APD’s public information officer.

The event was block party in style and featured karaoke, law enforcement demonstrations, various equipment on display for residents to check out, as well as face painting, inflatables, door prizes, grab bags and concessions.

Other agencies also taking part included the Covington County Sheriff’s Office, the 22nd Judicial District Drug Task Force, Covington County EMA, Covington County E911, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), Covington County District Attorney’s Office, Covington County DHR and the Andalusia Fire Department.

Scofield said the true highlight of the night was Andalusia police officers, department staff and others doing the “Nae-Nae” in front of the Andalusia Fire Dept. Some of those attending even jumped in to join the fun.

A karaoke contest followed with karaoke provided by LNT Productions of Andalusia.
