Twenty-five marching bands will participate in this weekend’s 10th annual A-Town Band Competition, hosted by the Andalusia High School band. It’s the biggest competition to date.

Last year, 24 bands with approximately 1,700 students were in town for the annual event, and this year, it’s one band bigger. The event has grown from hosting only 16 bands in 2013.

The competition is the band’s biggest fundraiser, and the group hopes to earn $10,000 in profits, which are used to defray the band’s expenses.

All five of the county’s high school bands will participate. Red Level, Florala, Opp, and Straughn will compete. Andalusia High School’s Sound Tradition – which is 148 members strong this year – will perform in exhibition Saturday night.

Judges include:

• Sean Sanders – drum majors

• Anna Till – majorettes

• Mary Ellen Shellhouse – colorguard

• Joshua King – percussion

• Johnny Brewer, Chris Cooper and David Cadle – bands.

The event normally has attendance of 4,000 to 6,000 people.

Admission is $6, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free.
