The Opp Fire Department has teamed up with Hardees in Opp to hold a spirit day on Saturday.

Opp Fire Chief Cory Spurlin said firefighters will be at Hardees from 8 a.m. until.

“We’ll be hanging out there with the fire truck,” Spurlin said. “We’ve been talking to our citizens about fire safety, what all we do in the town and we’ll answer any questions they have.”

For the children, Spurlin said that Jumping Maniacs has donated a bouncy house from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Those who present a special ticket, which can be picked up at the OFD or the Opp Chamber of Commerce, will have 20 percent of their pre-tax purchase donated to the fire department.

Spurlin said they are looking to raise between $3,500 and $3,800 to purchase an enclosed trailer for them to pull necessary equipment in.

“The city has been gracious enough to allow us to get a new truck,” he said. “We have a golf cart that we use for medical purposes and we would store it in there as well. If we had some kind of disaster, we can get it there and unhook it and use it.”

Spurlin said they would also be taking up donations for the fire department at the event.
