The Pleasant Home Eagles have been salivating all summer for this Friday night, and the opening of the 2015 football season.

 

Chris Mason is entering his second season at the helm for the Eagles.

 

The Eagles open up the 2015 season on Friday night when they travel to New Brockton. This with be the fourth match between the two teams with New Brockton owning a 3-0 record. Last season, New Brockton came away with a 49-28 victory over Pleasant Home.

 

Justin Jones, who was the head coach for the Florala Wildcats for two seasons, enters his second season as head coach of the New Brockton Gamecocks.

 

Jones complied an 8-12 overall record while at Florala, but was 6-4 in his final season. Jones was 7-4 in his first year at New Brockton, and led the Gamecocks into the Class 2A playoffs.

 

Last season didn’t go as planned for Mason and the Eagles, but the young coach believes his returning players learned a lot from last year, and have continued to grow into the summer.

 

Mason said that the Eagles offense will depend heavily on the play of junior quarterback Garrett Barton and senior running backs D.J. Veasey and Reid Adams.

 

Robert Scott could also see the ball in his hands quite often this season, Mason said.

 

“Robert wants to be the playmaker,” Mason said in an interview over the summer. “He is the type of player who wants the ball in his hands.”

 

Defensively, the Eagles will come at the Gamecocks with mainly an even front, and look to create confusion in the backfield.

 

Mason said he expects Scott and Barton to be a big part of the defense as well.

 

Mason Greathouse is another player that Mason thinks will make an impact on the defensive side of the ball.

 

Kickoff for the game is set for 7 p.m.
