The Roadrunners were the featured class Saturday night at South Alabama Speedway, running a 35-lap feature. Jake Daniels started on the pole and sped away from the field, leading all 35-lap in the caution free race. Daniels got the jump at the green flag and while his stiffer competition was making its way through the field, Daniels was pulling away.

 

Daniels enjoyed a half straightaway lead before Tim Peters made his way into second. Without the aid of a caution, Peters wasn’t able to cut into Daniels’ lead. Daniels maintained his lead until the checkers flew. Peters was well back in second. Jason Kendrick was third with Charles Gardner fourth and Mike Wolfe fifth.

 

With regular driver Adam Salter working out of town, Heath Mills slipped back behind the wheel of the #114 Modified he used to drive on a regular basis. Mills looked like his old self, taking the lead on lap two and leading the rest of the way to take the win. Lance Blacker led the first lap before Mills took control/ Once out front, Mills held a comfortable lead over the field for the remaining laps. Shep Lucas dropped back at the start of the race, but came back to finish second. Blacker was third, followed by David Capps and Chris Cotto.

 

In the Super Stock Feature, Jamie Ater grabbed the lead on lap four and went on to take the win. Daniel Parker lead the first three laps while Ater made his way through the field. Ater caught Parker and went to the inside to take the lead on the fourth circuit. The field caught up to Ater with a lap 21 caution. But on the restart, Ater sped away. Ater led the field to the checkers, but the excitement wasn’t over. Durin Knowles, running second coming to the checkers, spun coming out of turn four and was stalled in the middle of the track. Parker, running third, was able to slide by to take second. Aiden Eldridge and Darryll Rudd weren’t as lucky. Eldridge slammed into Knowles, while Rudd was able to spin and avoid contact. Rudd got corrected and crossed the line third. Eldridge was credited with fourth and Knowles fifth.

 

Johnny Otto was handed the lead on lap 12, and that’s all he needed to secure the win in the Street Stock Feature. Travis Slawson started third, but motored into the lead on the first lap. Slawson continued to lead, but was getting heavy pressure from Justin Killian and Otto. On lap 12 Killian got into Slawson, turning the leader. Both were sent to the rear, and Otto took the lead. From there, it was easy sailing for Otto. Billy Maxie was second, followed by Daniel Davis. Slawson and Killian came back to finish fourth and fifth.

 

Joseph Chandler came back from a lap 21 incident with a slower car to win the Coyote Feature. Chandler took the lead on lap one and was cruising out front. On lap 21, he was attempting to put a lap on Javis Nelson when the two got together and spun. Chandler had to go behind the lead lap cars for the restart, and David Williams took over the point. Chandler blasted his way back to the front and it only took two laps for Chandler to retake the lead. While Chandler led the field to the checkers, positions were changing behind him. Jonathan Johnson and Wesley Goleman got by Williams and came across the line second and third. Garrett Bullock was fifth. The finishing order changed in post race tech as Johnson, Goleman, and Bullock were disqualified. The “dq’s” moved Williams to second, Michael Wolfe, Jr. to third, James Harris to fourth, and Tim Richardson to fifth.

 

Shep Lucas took the lead on lap three and held off Jack Whittle to take the CupLite feature. Dylan Northey led the first two laps before Lucas took the lead. Whittle stayed on Lucas’s bumper all race, but couldn’t find a way around the leader. Rick Northey finished third with Karl Williams fourth and Charlie Hercus fifth.

 

Action continues on August 29 with the Modified class taking the spotlight, running a 50-lap Feature. Also in action will be the Street Stock, Roadrunner, Coyote, CupLite, and Mini Sportsman classes.
